Solar garden lighting is an excellent solution for illuminating outdoor spaces. Ecological, economical and practical, it can illuminate terraces, walkways and gardens without the need for electricity. However, like any product, solar lighting can sometimes cause problems. But, rest assured, there's always a good explanation for the problem. So why doesn't your solar lamp work? Here's everything you need to know to get your solar lighting up and running again quickly.
Check that lights are switched on properly
Even if it seems obvious, the first thing to do is to check whether your solar product is switched on. In the event of a problem, we're often tempted to check a lot of things, but we often miss the point and the most obvious explanations. Please note that your solar-powered luminaire may not have a switch, which is not the case with Lumihome products, which are all equipped with an On/Off button.
Test the light by covering the solar panel
This test allows you to check whether your light is working in daylight. By covering the solar panel, you can simulate darkness and check that your solar luminaire actually lights up.

Check that there is no pull tab on the battery
Again, this is not the case with all luminaires, but sometimes the battery may have a pull tab that needs to be removed for the luminaire to light up.

Check that the solar panel is clean
A soiled solar panel, covered in dust or dead leaves for example, will not perform its role to perfection and may affect the overall operation of your product. That's why you need to wipe your solar panel gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth (never use abrasive products). Lumihome solar products are maintenance-free, except for this light cleaning, which preserves all the solar panel's properties and ensures the correct passage of light.
Check photovoltaic panel position and solar gain
Your luminaire's solar module must be positioned to receive plenty of light during the day, otherwise it won't be sufficiently charged for the night. Lumihome products feature patented technology that means they can be recharged in any weather. They feature a unique solar sensor with UV amplifier that provides intense lighting even on cloudy days. So even in winter, Lumihome solar solutions keep on lighting up. Since sunshine is shorter and the weather often less clement, charging time will just be longer. "A little tip: if you choose Lumihome solar lamps, opt for mode 3 in winter. This mode allows you to benefit from lighting that only comes on when presence is detected. This preserves the battery as much as possible, so you can continue to enjoy quality lighting", advises Christophe Coelho.

Switch off the luminaire and leave it to charge for 72 hours
This is something you should do regularly with solar lights. Switching them off allows the battery to recharge fully over several days of sunlight. So, if you find that your solar lights aren't working, give them a rest for a few days. Switch them off using the switch, and switch them on again 72 hours later. The battery will then be at full capacity. You should also know that Lumihome products need an initial charge in full sunlight for 8 hours from the moment they are first used. This allows the battery to reach its maximum capacity.

Does your luminaire need direct sunlight to operate?

No, not necessarily, especially if you're using Lumihome products which, as mentioned earlier, feature a solar sensor with UV amplifier that allows them to be positioned wherever you like. So, even if your luminaire isn't in direct sunlight, it still captures daylight, stores it and converts it into energy when the time comes. Of course, the battery will need more time to recharge. Exposure to the sun is therefore recommended, but not essential. On the other hand, foliage, trees or a sloping roof can interfere with battery charging. Don't hesitate to check. "If your lighting area is very shaded, you should know that Lumihome offers a solar lighting model with a remote panel, which allows you to position your lamp even in the darkest places." Christophe Coelho.
